Why Getting a Shower Filter is a Good Idea

Why Getting a Shower Filter is a Good Idea

Back in the days, most people believed that shower filters were nothing more than health gimmicks, offering no real benefits. However, that's not the case anymore. An increasing number of households are realizing the advantages of investing in shower filters. And there are research findings to prove that.

We all agree that contaminated drinking water harms our bodies. But did you know that shower water can be just as dangerous? Two of the most commonly found, harmful chemicals in shower water are chlorine and fluoride.

Consider the following reasons for getting a shower filter and why is it a healthier and safer option:

The Damage Caused by Chlorine

Even though chlorine is utilized by water treatment facilities to reduce the volume of harmful bacteria in water, its by-products are perilous to our health. The reaction between chlorine and other organic material in water leads to the formation of trihalomethanes (THMs), and one of them is cancerous.

A number of claims have been made regarding the absorption of chlorine via skin. When taking shower, our skin pores open up, allowing increased absorption of harmful substances in water, including chlorine and THMs. Showering without filtered water leaves you more prone to chlorine and chloramines absorption than unfiltered drinking water.

According to a report published in 1992 in the American Journal of Public Health, the chances of contracting certain types of cancer increases by 15-35% when chlorinated drinking water is consumed. The report further suggested that most of these health risks were linked to chlorinated shower water.

Also, shower is the main source of water contaminants getting released in the air, hampering the indoor air quality.

Shower Filters Make You Feel Fitter

What is the first thing you want after a tiring day at work? A warm shower we suppose. But do you sometimes feel even more tired, fatigued or plain worse after shower? If yes, it's majorly because of increased exposure to chlorine. While taking shower, our body absorbs and nose inhales chlorine.

The exposure to elevated levels of chlorine makes us more exhausted, mentally drained, and dull. Furthermore, the autoimmune function of our body drops, making it even more difficult to defend against infections and allergens. However, by installing a shower filter, you can easily do away with those harmful vapors, while fortifying your body's immune system and mental health.

Chlorinated Shower Water and Cancer

A number of studies suggest that there is a link between chlorinated water and cancer. They even state that the chances of contracting cancer as a result of chlorine shower water is greater than drinking chlorinated water.

When taking warm showers, the chlorinated unfiltered water turns into gas – easy to inhale and absorb.
